Hi Jerry,
Building a reverb tank myself is what I intend to do.
What I would like to know from you people out there is, if there is a
difference (sonically) between the reverb springs used in a stand alone tank
and those used in the Fender amps?
P.S. I see you bought the Jazzmaster.

Hello Brain,
This sounds great. But I also got another question. Would it be possible
to self build a tube spring reverb unit?
With the right components of course.
My friens father is pretty good when it comes to building electronic
equipment. But can it be done?
I saw a reverb unit a e-bay, probably taken from an amp and it looks
pretty simple to me. (But I can be greatly mistaken, of course.)

I have been hearing around and reverb units by fender cost here in
Belgium about $ 750, no kidding..So you understand me searching for an
alternative. And we are talking re-issues, not the original
ones..Unbelievable..
So I was wandering If a self made item would also do the job?
I have seen Digital reverb units for around $ 350 new, but I would like
a more real sound..
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
Jerry

Hi Jerry,
I watched E-bay for a long time and managed to buy a brand new Fender
reissue unit in the box with foot pedal for $335 or so. When I was
watching
them, thats about how much a used reissue would go for, and it usually
didn't have the foot switch (not a huge loss as it just turns the reverb
off/on...why do you need it off? ha).
After you get it, at minimum replace the 6V6 tube with a 6K6 (this is
what
was used in the original circuit). That will make the biggest
difference. Go
ahead and replace the rest of the tubes to New Old Stock (NOS) ones if
you
like and want to spend another $10-$20. And finally if you are handy
with a
soldering iron you can change out a capacitor. See the bookmarks for
this
group...Dick Messick has a cool page with instructions on how to do
that.
If you don't have the cash right now I have heard that people like the
Boss
stomp box (RV-3 or RV-5???). I have also heard some people like this
pedal
called the Little Lanilei by Songworks.
