I think that a year or two ago there was a US company Collectables that
released all the Astronauts stuff - cdnow has it. However, here is the
deal: the Astronauts only released four albums during their surf years,
and two of those were live that were more-or-less garage rock and very
slight in surf-instro content. That leaves the other two studio albums
"Surfin' With" (with Movin' on it) and "Competition Coupe". They both
have more vocals than instros, and the vocals are nothing great (with a
few exceptions on the Competition Coupe album). But the instros are
fantastic. Bear Family records from Germany has a CD with both of these
on it. I'd get that. BUT... you need one more CD: Rarities on Bear
Family also. Most of the best by the Astronauts was only released in
singles forms, and this CD collects all of these classic tracks: Surf
Party, Hot Doggin', Quasimoto, Surf's You Right, The Pier and more. With
these two CDs you can get all the Astronauts' instros. Get it now! The
Astronauts were the best. They really set the tone for most of the 90s
surf music, even more so than Dick Dale.
