Re: What is this noise my amp is making?

jimmywilseylives - 08 Jan 2004 10:56:08

Check the tubes as Dave suggested and examine the speaker plug. I had
a very similar thing going on with my SFTR and I found out the plug
was wacked (falling apart). If it is the original plug it may need to
be replaced.
The speaker is also a suspect. Check to see if you hear this static
rumbling noise coming from one and only one speaker. If you do switch
it out for another known good speaker and see if the problem goes
away. If not, consider your electrolytic filter caps on the underside
of your chassis. If they are original Mallorys then they most
definitely need to be replaced just for your amps sake- whether or
not that takes the noise away.
I hope this trubleshooting help helps. Take care. JWL (aka Dario)
