Hi,
IMHO, these amps are not so bad tone wise if you're just playing alone at
home.
However, while they do sound close to the old amps, their tone is certainly
not as good.
I'm not talking about one amp I heard and played, but several amps, in
different places. Some of them sounded better, some sounded worse, but they
all had no depth and a certain fuzziness that couldn't be dialed out.
Reliability wasn't good with the ones I played over time. In fact, our
record label had bought a new one and it needed to be replaced twice. They
also had some used ones and they needed constant repair.
If you ever had the chance to play one right next to an old Blackface or
Silverface, you'd immedietly hear the difference.
Yes, the old ones are harder to find, but they are cheaper, and their value
will rise, while as the reissue Twin Reverbs will probably drop in value.
Once you get an old Silverface and have a good amp tech overhaul it, it can
serve you for many many yeas without too mcuh problems.
I'm sorry I'm "raining on your parade", but if you can still back out of the
deal, I'm pretty sure you won't be sorry in the long run. These amps are not
cheap, so I'd hate to see someone spend their hard earned cash on something
that would probably not be the best choice.
