After getting my Showman and during it's road to recovery, I was a pretty
hardcore reader of the Vintage Amp and the Amp Repair forums over at the
Fender Forum. It was my impression that these amps *are* popular amongst the
non-surf crowd. I didn't really ask what music these guys played, but I do
recall a couple of guys mentioning blues, country, and just rock and roll.
Plus many of them were bass players. A black face Showman has the same
circuit as the black face Twin Reverb, Bandmaster, etc. I think black face
amps have this mythical quality anyway, so guitar nuts buy them if/when they
can find them.
They were Fender's top of the line amp at one time; maybe that has something
to do with it too.
Tell us more about the new "Twin", Dave. Is that out yet?
Thanks,
BN
