This is a first post, so i hope it isn't too lame. I've been playing
in South Africa's only surf band (would you believe?), Krakatoa, for
a couple of years and we've had a lot of trouble juggling borrowed
amps or using amps that are really a last resort for surf guitar. So
here's the deal: Our second hand market is cheap, but limited. I'm
not going to be able to find a '57 Austin rebolux sizzler with the
optional bakelite reverb octagon. what common amp combos in the 80-
100 watt range do you guys think really kick ass? Especially i'm
looking for a dripping reverb and rich tone. I tried one of those
fender deluxe 80 watts this morning and the reverb was certainly a
hell of a lot better than the average amps designed for hard
rock/metal. But it don't sound like no vintage external reverb
tank. any thoughts?
Gimme some time and i'll give you guys a link if you want to hear
what surf guitar sounds like where the indian meets the atlantic.
