Woodies CD (was End of the POP Mart)

Ferenc Dobronyi (ferencnd) - 18 Sep 2003 00:03:26

OK, here is what happened...
I was and am a huge Woodies fan, I saw them play in clubs, and eventually Pollo
Del Mar played a few shows with them. Rick was giving away a cassette version of
their recordings, always with an unspecified release date. I was at the last
Woodies show (with the infamous "acrimonious onstage breakup") on September 15,
1996. It was a weird show, any band might have broken up that day- Here is the
Pollo account of the day:
In 1984 I started POP Records when I was in college. We put out 10 albums before
we lost all our money. 1996 I reactivated POP to handle the Pollo Del Mar stuff.
So, on New Years Day 1998, I was sitting in my hot tub listening to the Woodies
tape and saying, damn this is great, this is, in fact, a lost treasure, why
doesn't someone put this out. Hey, I could put it out... so I called Rick, and
he said "OK", and I thought we could put it out pretty quickly as the CD was
finished, but no, it took 10 months. Rick's friend Mark Fassett did an
unbelievably good job with the mastering.
Rick did an interview with New Gandy Dancer that covers the history of the band:
