Fender Books

Brian Neal (xarxas) - 11 Aug 2003 18:36:52

I just got "Fender Amps: The First 50 Years", and if you like drooling over
amps, get this book! Wow, so much amp porn, errr, eye candy. One of my
favorite photos is of a young man in the 60's, white shirt and tie, buzz cut
(flat top), playing through a bitchin' Jaguar into a black face Fender Super
Reverb, with a stand of sheet music in front of him. I bet "Mary Had a
Little Lamb" never sounded so good... :) Lucky kid!!
In addition to all the great photos, there is a wealth of history, and
pictures of all the knobs, logos, face plates, etc used throughout the whole
history of Fender. I skipped ahead and read the Showman chapter. Very
interesting stuff! It talks about the blonde, black face, silver face, and
even the red knob and solid state versions. Tone rings and all.
I also got Forrest White's History of Fender book. I'll review this later. I
flipped through it and saw a chapter on the making of the Jazzmaster amongst
other interesting stuff. It appears to be written in a very loose and
informal style.
(I had a good birthday...)
Does anyone else have any of the Fender related books and what do you think?
