Re: [SurfGuitar101] Bass Amps

DP (noetical1) - 02 Aug 2003 13:59:59

Brian:
The bass is a fine and noble instrument, and its
amplification needs are similar to guitar however:
1. bass usually requires double the "watt power" to produce
the same volume level as guitar amp. ie: 200 wats bass =
100 watts guitar
2. bass tones sound better through tubes, however bass
tones usually require a more limited distortion tolerance
than guitar tones.
3. solid state or MOSFET bass amps are usually less
expensive than tube models.
4. makers of good tube bass amps: ampeg, sunn, mesa, fender
5. there are many many makers of bass solid state: fender,
ampeg, sunn, etc etc.
6. I would try to find an old fender bassman, or an old
ampeg combo....those two would be ideal for surf tones.
good luck
