Re: Turntable owners unite!

Dick (flatwound01) - 29 Jul 2003 19:44:36

I recently became vinyl (re)enabled - last winter I pulled the old
Technics SL-D202 out of the attic and got a new cartridge for it. I
guess the main reason was so that I could transfer some of my old
vinyl to CD (it's hard to fit those LPs into the car CD player).
A secondary motivation was so that I could get some of those cool
releases that aren't available on CD (and yes, I put them on CD so I
can listen to them in the car . . . ). And for you vinyl purists
out there, I don't clean up the scratches and pops (I try to, but it
just doesn't seem to work for me - hehehe).
I run the old turntable through my equally ancient Pioneer SX-5
receiver into the sound card. The audiophile crowd swears by tube
audio amps - I have no reason to doubt that they bring a little more
warmth to the vinyl than the solid state stuff I have. Hmmm . . . I
do have a little homebrew tube audio amp sitting in my basement that
my Grandfather-In-Law used to use to play his jazz piano records -
I've got to give that a try someday!
Anyone out there using tube amplification with their vinyl?
-Dick
