RE: [SurfGuitar101] what's with "Dual"

Jerry (whipeoutboy63) - 29 Jul 2003 06:37:10

Sorry got it wrong...showman 85 watt output, 4x 6L6 power tubes...Dual
was added in '64 to the amp. And Dual stand for twin 2x 12 inch of 13"
while showman came with only one speaker 12" or 13" (15" was also
possible)

Hi Dual has to do with the wattage, if I'm correct?
Duall Showman 100 Watt and 4 pwer tubes and Showman 50 Watt 2 power
tubes???
Correct me if I'm wrong.... But Blackface Dual Showman is still
considered to be the "King" of surf amps.... Be preparedto do some work
on the amp...new cabs probably and perhaps new tubes. If the the amp is
still in origanal condition it's a good thing, many were modified over
the years to become more screaming beasts....instead of getting a
Marshall.
So lots of power...But coupled up with a JBL equiped Dual Showman
cab.....Aaaahhhhhh...surf heaven.....ad the reverb unit and bucle up for
a journey to the stars...

Okay, I know this topic has been breached on here before, but plain
and simple, I'm too lazy and my dial-up is too slow for me to go back
and search, but I was wondering what the key differences were between
Showman amps and Dual Showman amps?
The reason I ask is that there is a '67 Dual Showman listed on Ebay
right now, and the guy is offering local (SF Bay Area) sale which
could cancel the auction. It looks to be at a very competitive
price, so my interest is definitely peaked.
What is a good deal on a piece of equipment like this? Keep in mind,
it's just the head, no cab, and it does not have the Vibrato
footswitch (although the vibrato is supposed to be in good working
order).
Thanks,
~Bill~
