Re: [SurfGuitar101] Re: Dave W's New Guitar Idea Photo

dave wronski (stickmandw) - 07 Jul 2003 16:52:42

I've played Strats since I was 19, through all the years when it wasn't always
considered cool. But I always had them scratchin' their Mullet-equipped heads as
to how I got that thing to stay in tune. The first Slacktone album was done with
my '58 Strat, {Goldfinger, the '57 Strat}. The "Into the Blue Sparkle" CD was
done with the white Jaguar, except for "Daytona Mona", which was the '58 Strat,
and "South Run". was the Green Jazzmaster US re-issue.
I was just thinking of a different look, which would probably turn into a
different sound, as well. Judging by the way the first one sounds{ pictured}, I
think mine will be unique. As a bonus, which contributed to the idea, maybe I'll
be able to cram two of them in my suitcase. A common technique used by
travelling guitar players without the big bucks tour support to pay for adequate
cartage.
I still really like the Jaguar for lots of reasons. While sitting down playing,
the Jaguar positions the neck in a better place. It's a little higher. I put the
guitar on my left leg {text book classical style} because it positions the
guitar closer to where it will be while standing. Your right arm is in a better
position, too. You also have better access to the whole neck.
Anyway, I just left Fender and talked with the guy who's shaping and painting
the body, and I'll OK it for painting tomarrow. It's only money, guitars must be
worth it. Otherwise, they wouldn't cost so much!

Dave,
This is very puzzling. Why go for a Strat body? I thought you liked
the Jag body better...

Custom Shop}, that made the surf Jag seen at the NAMM Show. He decided
to try my idea of a Strat body with a Jag neck& scale{24"}, with a
Jag/Jazz tailpiece and bridge. More pronounced neck angle for better
string pressure against the saddles. He made two. This one{in "photos"
section} is a Relic, ash body, '59 humbucker at bridge{Japanese
dealers $uggestion}. His other is silver sparkle.

have two Jag p/ups. I'm trying to fix a '63 Jag neck to put on this
body. My switch will be in a different place, or the switching will be
done with Bill Turner's new combination Knob/switch that will be on a
new series of guitars from Fender called, "Stealth". The knobs look
like the old Strat, J-bass, Telle, but the tops of the knobs can be
push in for swithching functions-very cool!
