Re: [SurfGuitar101] Amp Cleaning

dave wronski (stickmandw) - 02 Jul 2003 18:58:57

Hi Mike, I've had good results with "Ducks Deluxe" for cleaning tolex.{ Also, their "Dr
Ducks axe wax" for cleaning gig-slime off your guitar and strings is real good.}
back to the amp... Use a large brush to scrub, and wipe the foam off with a
paper towel. Spray 'n Wash {from the grocery store} is what I've used on a
recent Vox ac10 purchase. I also tried the Armor product that is made for car
tires on the Vox Tolex, and that thing looks like it came out of the factory
yesterday. Do'nt have the amp near when you use this stuff.
For Fender grill cloth, take the speaker off the baffle board, and remove the
board from the cabinate. Take it outside and wash away the dirt with a hose. The
"cloth" is made of plastic. I do this when I have a blazing California sun to
dry the wood as soon as possible.
And a tip to avoid when cleaning the electronics: NO spray cleaners in the tube
sockets!

My 1960's Vibrasonic is dirty. Years of gigging have left it looking
nicotine stained. How can I get the tolex to look closer to the nice
Brown colour it originally had? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mike
