RE: [SurfGuitar101] Re: Stupid Amp Qestion

Hi,
Hmmmm, Difficult question. I started out too with Brain MOAM page, great
tunes, but indeed quiet fast.
If you like MOAM you can try their first albums; Is it...Man or
Astro-man and Destroy all Astro-man.
They do a lot of covers on these first albums. I generally like them
most.
If you are more in the traditional surf, check out this groups tab page,
it has some great tunes.
I would start with Pipeline (for speed and rythem) and because it is a
traditional surf tune.
Also Surf Rider, available in many different versions and perhaps Hava
Nagila and Miserilou, for fast double picking.
Also Walk don't run is pretty easy to play and is a good exercise. I
also like Mr. Moto, Surf Party (I just love the Nebulas version)
And currently I'm trying to play "Moment of truth" from Dave Myers and
the Surftones and "The cruel Sea" by the Ventures, more difficult but
lots of fun. I always try to learn the chords first to get a feel of the
rythem guitar (speed and rythem) and thew, wheni'm confident enough I
try to learn the lead guitar. I find this a good method, because you get
a certain insight in the songs you play.
I don't find surf an easy genre to play, when compared to lets say rock.
I spent a lot of time getting the tune right, trying to find alternative
ways of playing it and just getting it right. I also play in a Surf/core
instro band and it is quite fun to play these tunes.
But playing allong with the CD is a good exercise.
Here are some other intersting instro/surf tab sites;
For Ventures tunes, Kevin Gardeners page; Pipeline, walk don't run
etc...
The classical Surf tunes all in Alphabetic order from "Paradise Cove"
Thor's tabs (From Monsters from Mars)
And last but not least "Bettenville's tabs" with lots of Classics!!
Enjoy,
Jerry S. from Belgium.

So what are some easy songs to learn? I started by
trying out some Man Or Astroman? tabs from Brian's
site and when I felt confident, I tried playing with
the CD, got real depressed at my lack of speed and
skill and have languished since. I need something,
easy, like for people who decided to get a guitar when
they turned thirty and have never played any other
instruments. I need something that any idiot can pick
up, because I am just that idiot. Any suggestions
would be appreciated.
