RE: [SurfGuitar101] SD-1 "Vintage" Pups for Jaguar...opinions?

Jerry (whipeoutboy63) - 26 Mar 2003 09:23:50

Hi,
I heard that Fender re-issue pick ups sound more like the original then
the SD-1.
You should be able to get these new for $ 40 a piece.
Accourding to Mel, they sound close to the original.
It all depends on the sound you are after. I would not get the SD Hot or
Quarter pounder for the surf sound.
They are both hother then the original Jagmaster pick ups with a higher
tone end and less mid.
Hope this helps,
Jerry S. from Belgium "just repeating what he read on this topic"
Anyway, check out the "fenderforum.com" and click on Jaguars and
Jazzmaster or go to Mel's page
Or Tom's page

Subject: [SurfGuitar101] SD-1 "Vintage" Pups for Jaguar...opinions?
I am bidding on some Seymour Duncan SD-1 Vintage pickups for Jaguar on
EBay, and wanted to know: am I stupid? Are these any good? After placing
my bids, I went and looked at some reviews on Harmony Central, and both
reviewers slammed these pickups as not sounding at all "vintage"
(whatever that means) and not sounding like original Jag pups.
Anybody tried these? And what is your opinion of them? Are the other SD
pups for Jag, either the hot of the quarter pounders, better for the
surf sound.
P.S. I intend to put these on a Japanese reissue.

P.P.S. - Brian, hope you come out of your rut. But sometimes, rutting
can be fine!
