This Q gets asked on the various groups fairly often.
On my Peavey Accelerator, I use D'Addarios round-wound. Definitive
ballsy tone with a David Eden/Bag End rig.
On my Danelectro Longhorn, I use RotoSound Jazz Bass 77 shortscale
flatwounds 40-90. This blows everyone away. Here's a cool vid (but
lousey lighting in the club!) of me (2nd from left) playing it from a
recent performance with The Jump Kings in Cupertino, CA. Really rich
tone! (you need speakers to hear it well)
And, of course, you can't go wrong with a classic Fender P-Bass.
