Here is a primer on how the new SG101 site works for those of you
who have never used one of these types of sites before.
Say you write up a CD revew, show report, or your band would like to
announce a gig. So you write something up, and then log into the
SG101 site. You then hit the Submit News link and fill out the form.
Your submission will be sent to the crack staff at SG101 for review
where it will be categorized into a topic area. If your item is
accepted, it gets published as a headline story on the front page
for all to view. Other members can then leave comments (and so can
you!) and a long discussion thread can follow, tacked right onto the
end of the article. Viewers can also rate the article. Your item
also becomes a permanent part of the site. Visitors can click on the
archived news link and be shown all prior stories. And/or use the
search feature.
These news stories (I think - haven't figured it out yet) can be RSS
feeds, so you can see when new stories have been added from your
browser or RSS news reader.
The site also has a web forum which is very similiar to the list we
have here, but it's all graphical and filled with smilies. So unlunf
can stop using <g> and actually insert an icon of a smiley face. <g>
Give it a whirl. I hope to submit some real stories from the
archives here as a trial ballon in the next day or too.
Thanks,
BN
