Hello Everyone,
I started the www.surfguitar101.com website almost 2 years ago. We had
just gotten back from California, bursting with photos and video clips
of the Surf Coasters, Pollo Del Mar, The Sub-Mersians, & The Hypnotic
IV. We wanted to share these with the world, and I always wanted to
tinker with a website. So I got some hosting and learned a bunch of
stuff along the way.
The one thing that has been kind of missing from the site has been
interactiviy. Right now, it's basically one-way communication. I put
up videos and photos. So, in the last 2 days, I've been playing with
some "portal creation" software (PHP-Nuke), and have fallen totally in
love with it. Have you guys ever seen Slashdot? Or to some extent,
Harmony Central?
We will be able to create a database of gear reviews, show reports, CD
reviews, etc. And it won't just be me. It will be you guys
contributing content.
Plus, and I know this will make a few of you happy, it has built in
web-based forum software. I also see that chat software is available,
so maybe we can finally ditch the notoriously crappy Yahoo chat someday.
So, I've got big plans, and we'll see if they pan out. I have some
concern about my web hosting provider being able to handle the load.
But we can only try and see what happens.
How do you get started? Well go to and
sign up (create an account). If you have anything that you have posted
here like a review or report, submit it to me as a story or review,
and we will start building content.
I will need help on a lot of things (notably some cool graphics for
the topic icons). Please post any comments and suggestions here to
this list until I get the forums up.
Off the top of my head, I would like to take some of Ivan's CD reviews
and use them as trial content. And Bruce D, you had some great gear
reviews, can I use them?
I will be making a to-do list on the site that shows what I have in
the works. I have already loaded the 117 links I had on the old site
into the database. That software rocks.
Thank you!
