I heard that Fillmore Mosrite is no longer happening. I'm sure there's plenty
still for sale. I have new and old Mosrites (sorry, none fer sale) and I can
say that the new Japanese ones, Fillmore and Excellent, are better than the
originals in terms of set up and construction. I don't like the Mosrite for
playability. The neck is too thin. The frets are too low. My hands are too big
for it. I love the Mosrite for it's backwards looks and classic sound.

Subject: [SurfGuitar101] Mosrite Guitars Help
Ok, so I just found out about Mosrite guitars the other day, and I see
that a lot of you guys like them. I want to get into playing surf and
I don't yet have the right equipment for the surf sound. I like the
Jazzmasters and Jags, but now I really want a Mosrite after seeing
some vids of The Nebulas and Satan's Pilgrims. I love rare and/or
strange guitars and just love the look and the sound of the Mosrite. I
just have to have one now. But, I'm anal about quality. I never settle
for anything, never have, I always save up to buy exactly what I want.
And now I want a Mosrite. But, man they are hard to get ahold of, and
bying a guitar by mailorder scares the hell out of me. I need to feel
it, and play it.
Where can I find original Mosrites today? I've looked at all the
copy's out there and don't mind a copy. But the only one's I like are
the Mark I with the zero fret and Vibramute. The Fillmore Mosrites
look really good, and I've heard great things about them and also the
Zamminc "Excellent" Mosrites. Can anyone tell me the difference
between the two? are the "Excellent" Mosrites made by Fillmore? I want
a Mosrite of high quality, preferably the more "legal" Fillmore Mark I
model. I don't really like the Wilson Bros models, or the Tym, or the
Acoustic, or the hi flyer, and no way in hell am I going to deal with
Ed Roman.
Is there anywhere else I can get a Fillmore Mosrite except in Japan,
here in the states that you know of?
I'm just starting out with surf, and it seems that a new re-issue
Jazzmaster is almost the same price as an original Mosrite and the
Fillmore Mosrite. And with the Jazzmaster I still need a buzz stop and
the Duncan Vintage Pups... Should I just forget about a Mosrite? What
should I do? And as for fender Amps, which do you think I should start
with? New or used? What should I look for? Money is a factor (I'm not
rich at all). Please help if you can, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
AceHaze
