Clearly my opinion on surf-related matters doesn't mean anything.

I suspect you were just being sarcastic, Warren, but just to make
sure - don't go!! Warren, though young is a very insightful and well-
informed guy, as are many of the other younger participants. I think
Bruce was just talking about gear and even more about the *sound* of
surf guitar, and though I think he probably could have stated his
feelings on this issue a bit more tactfully, I don't think he was
saying that he's not interested in hearing what the younger folks have
to say, but simply that he puts more stock in the statements made by
people with a proven track record in surf guitar, which of course
makes total sense. But I don't think that means that the younger
people have nothing to contribute - in fact, as we've noticed, often
times it's the younger people that ensure that all of us stay grounded
in the surf tradition, which for one thing I really appreciate.
Anyway, so let's not get into a big flame war over this, it really
isn't necessary.
If any member of the list wants to write something, it would be much
better if he or she wrote something in response to serious and
important questions that Sean Berry has been raising for the last
couple of days. Speaking from experience, I think it's getting
tougher and tougher being in a surf band. The main reason we all do
it is clearly for the love of it - but then to not get the love back,
so to speak, from the very people that we hope will be the ones
touched by our music can be pretty disappointing and frustrating. If
most of the people on this list don't have any interest in new surf
music, then why do this at all? Strictly for self-satisfaction? It's
a costly way to achieve self-satisfaction, both in terms of money and
time and effort... Should we all just only play out rather than
record and only play the classics?
I, for one, think there's a lot of great surf music out there being
created every year and I try to keep up with it as much as possible,
and I think I've been better off for it. It saddens me that seemingly
so few others share this view....
