I echo those thoughts Jeff. When I saw Deke I was hoping he'd do an
Untamed Youth song or two. But I wouldn't say I was let down.
Infact I was blown away. Jimmy Sutton is in his touring band and
I've talked with him and from what I've gathered it sounds like they
don't do any of the older stuff. But they do a surf song, or frat
song every now and then.
Yes, some of the early albums are vinyl only. But, Untamed Melodies
does help a bit. For example 9 songs from their first album "Some
Kinda Fun" are on the Untamed Melodies CD.
For the guitar geek in all of us, Deke told me this about a year
ago.
"I used the Jag on the first Untamed Youth album. I used Sammy's
reissue Jazzmaster on the 2nd Youth album, I used the 335 on the
Sophisticated Int. Playboys EP and all later albums like Planet Mace
and Youth Runs Wild. My 335 has been modified. The humbucking
coils on each pickup have
been taken out of the circuit, so that each pickup is only single
coil.
It sounds more like a Fender than a Gibson, and through the reverb
unit and into a Blonde Showman it's got a great, ballsy tone!"
