From interviews over the past several years, Davie Allan has said he uses 3
pedals, alternating between them depending on the exact fuzz sound he wants to
make. Several years ago, those three pedals were the Pro Co Rat, Ibanez TS9 and
if I'm not mistaken, a Mosrite Fuzzrite Pedal.
The Fuzzrite obviously would have the most authentic '60's Fuzz sound, and was
the pedal originally used by Allan on "Blues Theme". The other pedals, the Rat
in particular, offer a lot of adjustable shaping to get the exact degree of
Overdrive/ distortion that the player wants.
Jeff is absolutely correct about keeping it under control. Although we're a
dyed-in-the-wool Surf Band, we do tip out hats occasionally to others like Link
Wray, Davie Allan, and The Aqua Velvets. I tend to prefer a noticeable but not
saturated level of O.D. and find several of the O.D./Dsitortion settings on my
Zoom Effects processor work quite well for my needs.

Hi all,
Sorry to bother you again with my Fuzz related questions. But I just
traded some leftover telecaster parts I had laying arround for a Boss
FZ-3 Fuzz Pedal.
Parts were no longer needed and someone wanted to trade the fuzz for
them.
So what is it like? I mean for Surf fuzz sounds? I'm aware it's not
considered a vintage sounding fuzz, but i'm just wondering if it would
be usefull.
(I can still sell it afterwards, should I not happen to like it) I did
read the "harmony Central" revieuws on this one,but really didn't get
any wiser. Some like it, while others hate it
I will also have the Vintage Schaller Fuzz, so once I have them both
(hope to recieve them in the next week) I can compare them.
I think I would not mind having both a vintage and modren sounding Fuzz
pedal.
Thanks again!
