Re: [SurfGuitar101] Re: Fender's Eric Johnson Signature Model complex pickups

Marty Tippens (mctippens) - 07 Nov 2005 21:48:37

No, I didn't do a proper A/B test with the different trem blocks. The subtle
improvements claimed by the mfg, in particular incresed sustain, would best be
studied in a lab with an oscilloscope and a mechanical picking device that would
give consistant attack to the string. Trying to do conduct that test on my own
with all my human variables would not lead to a reliable conclusion. The mfg
takes advantage of that when they make the anecdotal claims.

My ears don't hear it. I did the change to the Callaham strictly
because a vintage reissue advertised as exact to the last detail
shouldn't have a modern trem block. E.J. claims to hear the
difference. He also claims to hear a difference in different brands
of batteries that he puts in his effects pedals.
