Jacob, very funny! i'll take you up on the wave - stuff, different
angle this time.
quite often, in art, descriptions of a period go hand in hand with a
description of style, think of terms like neoclassicism, romanticism,
baroque, art nouveau, art deco, etc...
linking periods and styles implies two things: you have transition
periods where styles flow into eachother, and you can have examples
of a style being so early that they fall into an other style's
period. Chicago Architect Frank Loydd Wright (sp?) comes to mind. Van
Gogh has made some paintings ahead of his time (not all though)
So, the big question, if Surf is Grand Art (and it is!) - are the
waves in surf not just periods, but also linkable to different
styles?
If so, what are the defining characteristics of the waves? examples?
I btw don't see a reason to exchange changes that came about through
advanced technology - after all, in all arts changes came about
through development of technology.
anyway, we could ask questions like:
is this perhaps the 4th wave - although coming straight from the 3th,
because the styles are differnet?
If the early sixties are classic, than is this wave a neo-classisist
wave?
Are the reluctant aquanauts neoclassic? are at the same time the
surfaris classic?
Is Pollo del Mar an impressionist surfband?
Is Dick Dale's problem that he's stuck between two waves?
or - is it all just surf and let's leave it at that?
