Brian,
I used the F1 and the SX-1 for awhile...they were great for me as a
beginner. I even endorsed them on the Big Rock site. Very precise.
However, as I got better, I found them not so good. Too flimsy for
serious surf picking and noisy as hell.
The F1 is taco shaped, so it has a groove that holds it neatly in
place. The SX1 has "wings" attached to a kidney-shaped pick. The wings
are at 90 degrees to the pick, just where the middle bone of your
finger lays. The wings work pretty good, but sometimes you want to
slip the pick a little in your fingers to get a different attack, and
with these, you can't. So, it's a mixed bag.
I'm back to using reliable ol' Fender 351 heavies and mediums. I'd be
happy to send you an SX-1 Surf Rocker, if you want one.
P.S. If you call Big Rock, tell 'em I sent you. They seem to like me,
and I did the photographs for some of their promo materials.
