Re: Surf Literature

Bubba Gump (brother_reynolds) - 15 Oct 2005 11:25:09

I hate to sound like a salesman, but I'd like to throw
my own hat into the ring:
Besides the Bob Dalley and Jon Blair books, the other
place that I found the most information on the true
original surf manifesto of Southern California (and
abroad) came from Domenic Priore's Dumb Angel
Gazette's, and his outside writing for other mags and
liner notes. About four years ago, I asked him to
revive Dumb Angel, as sort of an annual/almanac/book
reader, which we have -- Dumb Angel #4: All Summer
Long. Featured chapters include:
* Tracing of the surfing sound through independent
surf cinema of the '50s.
* Dick Dale 1961-63
* A Peter Frame Family Tree map of all of the South
Bay surf bands.
* A look at the Harmony Park Ballroom vs. the Retail
Clerks Hall surf revialry (featuring the Del-Tones,
the Showmen, the Surf-Tones and other surf
instrumental giants)
* Plus, Brian Wilson, Phil Spector, the original
"Surfer" magazine artists, exotica and a final chapter
on the stock surf and exploitation surf LPs from
1963-64.
I hope you all will take a look at our website --

Hang 10!
