That was before 66, right? Back then there was no such thing as a Fuzzrite.
Somebody built
one for them. Like on the Surfing With album, it's a slightly different
distortion, not as
radical, but fuzzy. They also had a compressor custom-built.

where I once found all those Ventures/Mosrite details is no longer,
unfortunately.
If I want that early distortion sound, I use the fuzz in a Schaller Fuzz-Wah,
and put the
guitar's (Mosrite) Volume knob to 9. That gets pretty close. Probably should
change the
transistor from silicon to germanium for early/mid 60s sound.
