We've had a couple of Squire Strats (the super cheap $99 "bullet"
hardtails - vintage 2-5 years ago) around the house with no major
issues. Certainly heavy strings have been no problem, and with good
setup they've been quite serviceable. Good deal for the money.

Think that the earliest Squiers were Hecho en Japan, but are the
CHinese No Good or what its offered for 125.00 with a case so
price is
right but if I can't put heavier strings on it, or the group
knows
about any horror stories on the squier Strats from CHina please
let me
know now.
