Yeah, the Stringrays are the only young group I can think of as well and they
haven't played in a long time. It's hard to win kids around here over to surf.
The kids are so impressed with distortion guitar. I'll bring a guitar into a
classroom of 18 - 21 year olds and play Miserlou and that gets a good response
but when I hit the distortion and do a wanna-be EVH lick, the eyes really light
up and everyone wants to sign up for the Guitar Club. I actually do run a Guitar
Club and I'll get the room to play Baja, Miserlou, Pipeline etc..The beginners
doing the rhythm and the intermediates playing the melody but before I walk in
the room, the intermediates are all playing Metalica or some such with heavy
distortion. So now and then I'll let them teach me one of their fav's and we'll
work it up for the group.
The only new surf band of any age in So Cal that is really active is Outer Wave.
There are other new bands that spring up but most are mixes of the usual cast of
characters that do a gig or two.

Stingrays come to mind. "Don't Fear The Reverb" Cd. Those guys were right out
of highschool. I'm not sure if they're together anymore.
