Re: jag shopping

trainwayne - 28 Aug 2005 11:17:34

Two weeks ago I bought a Fiesta Red '96 CIJ Jaguar (with Mustang
saddles and stock electronics) from Guitargui in Japan on Ebay for
$550 US plus $90 shipping (Which took 4 days, door to door...GREAT
service!). On Friday night I took the Jaguar to rehersal along with my
regular guitar. ( a re-issue MIJ Mosrite) When rehersal began, I
handed the other guitarist (A 23 year old newbie to playing surf music
who's been playing a strat) the Jaguar and told him "Try this". 30
seconds into a Ventures warm up tune everyone in the band looked at
each other with a WOW look on their faces. WHAT A DIFFERENCE IN SOUND!
Even with the stock pickups there was such a noticeable difference in
tone.....it just sounded RIGHT! This guitar was half or less than the
price of an AVRI and even without the electronic mods just plain kicks
a$$ for surf sound. I do plan on having the guitar professionally set
up as I think there is room for playability improvement, and
eventually want to put in better pick ups and pots in the lead
circuit, but for now, it really fills the bill for the sound we've
been looking for. IMHO,the CIJ/MIJ versions of the Jags are excellent
bargains as stock guitars, and with a $150 + worth of improvements are
every bit as good (or maybe better) than their double the price AVRI
cousins. BTW, the guitar was being played thru a reissue reverb tank
and a Fender 1000 amp.
