Klas, that's just nuts. I had no problem with our disagreements in
the past, but with this I've lost a bit of respect for you. ;)
I don't suppose you'll tell us next that you love his Blowin' In the
Wind?
And even on his best Gary-Usher-sixties vocals, he would often do
this high-frequency, girlish yelp that just sounds soooo bad.... It
makes me laugh every time I hear it...

Hey, well, that's something!

playing...)
Nah, man, you haven't seen him lately. He sounds great, plays
great. I saw him this last May and the May before that, and he was
great. Except for the vocals - especially Fever! Yikes! (He does
do a good Louis Armstrong impression, though! Both on vocals and
trumpet.)
Here's a funny bit:
This is from the liner notes for "Tiger's Loose," clearly written by
Dick, though in third person:
"Feeling the same about Dick's sound and energy as he does, Mike
Carnavale and Rex Olson, two friends as well as talented engineers,
have sat down with him and spent countless hours creating his first
live recordedd album from his concert at the Golden Bear in
Huntington Beach, CA. Dick feels this time he will have complete
control over every decision to be made concerning his projection of
his energies and sound in his album, and this time it will be the
first album to capture his rough, raw, pulsating sound and energy
that moves his people at his concerts."
[Such bad grammar! Never mind the megalomania.... "HIS" people...]
Now, fast forward some 15 years, to 1997, and Rhino's "Better Shred
Than Dead" Dick anthology. In the liner notes, Dick says:
"I didn't like The Tiger's Loose; I couldn't get that fat sound.
My sound was ten times more powerful in person than on record."
LOL! Only his most recent album sounds like Dick does live - until
the next album, when magically the previous one suddenly turns into
crap. Gotta love that man!!
