Because of the huge number of covers, I tend to be more interested in
very original arrangements, impossibly precise playing, or utterly
intense energy. With that in mind, and in no particular order:
Slacktone (the version on Gnarly Reef RIPS insanely!)
Tiki Tiki Bamboooos
The Surf Coasters
Agent Orange
Buck-O-Nine
Gallon Drunk
The Space Agency
The Spiedels
Lots of very competent versions, among which I very much like:
Dead Men Don't Surf
The Surfaris
The Roemans
Drew Weaver and the Alvarados (vocal)
And of course, the Dick Dale and his Del-tones single.

Im curious to everyones take on the best version of Miserlou? I saw
Stacktome play it recently. Kicked ass, amazing energy.
Also saw Tom Stanton of the Surf Kings giver a very strong performance
recently in HB.
My favorite version is Bobby Fuller. His version was recorded live at
a bowling alley of all places in El Paso Texas between 1962 & 1964. It
can be heard on "Bobby Fuller, El Paso Rock, vol 2 more early
recordings." Raw, innovative, amazing. Check it out. The good ones all
seem to die so young.
