Way back, a surf guitar newbie was asking about tab for "Wipeout," so
I found the "Surf Guitar" book tab of The Surfaris' version. Try
playing it like this, beginning on the fifth (A) string:
5-9, 4-7, 4-8, 4-9, 4-9, 4-7, 5-9, 5-9, 4-7, 4-8, 4-9, 4-9, 4-9, 4-7,
etc. The first change follows the same pattern, beginning on the
fourth string. Then, in the third change, you slide up to 11th fret on
the third and fourth strings.
The chords during the drum break are as follows: B, B, E, B, F#, E, B.
Bar the "B" on the 7th fret, play an open "E", and bar the F# on the
second fret.
A few beginner suggestions (I was where you are, six or eight months
ago): Don't get your tabs off the 'net, if you can help it. They're
often wrong or oversimplified, and they can lead to bad technique.
Among the better books is "Surf Guitar" by Hal Leonard Publishing,
which has versions of "Pipeline," "Misirlou," "Penetration",
"Tequila", "Out of Limits," and my favorite, "Mr Moto." Learn some of
these old-school standards, and you'll be ready to move ahead.
Good luck and keep playin'!
