Re: [SurfGuitar101] analog versus digital (vintage/lo-fi)

Marty Tippens (mctippens) - 22 Jul 2005 20:15:04

In the tape days, as an audiophile, I was always trying to eliminate hiss,
limited frequency response, limited dynamics and cross talk so I welcomed
digital. On the other hand, I also have nostalgia for some of those tape
limitations, especially the natural compression of tape. But ya gotta love all
the incredible conveniences of digital. If I think my digital recording needs a
bit of tape style compression, there are plug in's that affect a good facsimile.
Some use tape as a sound processor on the way to the digital desk.

Subject: [SurfGuitar101] analog versus digital (vintage/lo-fi)
howdy group:
anyone out there have a preference re: recording to analod
versus recording to digital? anyone still using tape
during the recording phase? any analog mastering going on
out there? any analog distribution (vinyl or cassettes)?
back in the old days we did AAA (analog recording, analog
mastering, analog distribution)...these days, in my little
home studio, I'm totally DDD (digital recording, digital
mastering, digital distribution)...
any ADD (analog, digital, digital) or AAD (analog, analog,
digital) recordists out there in surf-land?
anyone want to discuss the pros/cons of their favorite
recording techniques?
inquiring minds would like to know.
