Basically a remix/mash/brag-rap of DDs Miserlou with a
touch of originality at the end...some initial impressions?
read on:
1. drum machine generated handclaps recreate the DD "surf
beat"...
2. DDs "hup-hup-ho" is kindof featured as a clever hook...
3. The mighty DD trumpet solo is also "hookified"
4. Cool use of Byzantine scale in the chorus vocals...
Overall, a decent dance/rap/car driving tune...
what's trhe tune about? nothing too heavy..."Turn up your
radio, shake your ass,...be cool pimp daddy dancer"...what
else do you expect from 21st century brag-rap???
Overall, "Pump It" owes a greater debt to George Clinton
and Parlaiment/Funkadelic than to DD...this tune is a
totally blatant Parlaiment/Funkadelic/Clinton ripoff...DD
simply provides the background music for the conceit...
I can see why DD likes the tune though.
