jazzmaster wiring question

rock verb (mono_tones_1) - 08 Oct 2002 06:48:20

Hi everyone,
can anyone help me, i have a question about jazzmaster wiring. I installed
to MIJ jazzmaster pick ups in a strat and was looking on the net on how to
wire them. I can do without the two different circuits, just want a volume
and a tone pot. however, i saw in a wiring diagram on the net that the
rhythm and lead circuits use different tone pots and capacitors ( 50k lin
and .022 vs. 1MEG audio and 0.3 )
now, i have two questions: which one should i choose, and why are they
different in the first place? there's nothing in the circuit that justifies
the difference, wouldn't it make more sense if they had the same pot and
cap?
the second questions, these ratings are from the seymour duncan site (the
only site where i could actually read the little print)
and apply to the SD pu's. I'm not sure whether these are different from
american fender pu's, but they're different from MIJ pu's in any case. Does
anyone know whether i can use these components for the MIJ's?
thanks.
oh by the way, i would never say it sounds like a real jazzmaster. it is in
between an american jazzmaster and strat though, and it gives a lot broader
tone then a strat. So this might be an option for those of us who really can
not afford a 'real' guitar, but want to surf up there sound a little. any
old squier strat will do, and MIJ jazzmaster pick-ups are quite available
for not a lot of money on the net (obviously from people with MIJ's who've
installed the Seymour Duncans. thank you guys, for throwing the poor a
bone!)
as soon as i get my scanner working i'll try to post a photo on surf101, and
give all you surfers a good laugh.
