I'm not totally certain, but the sales guy told me the Hot Rod Deluxe and
Hot Rod DeVille series of amps have a solid state reverb driver (they do
have spring tanks of course).
I've never heard that the HRD family is based upon the Bassman amps (which
by the way have no reverb at all).
Not that I have anything against solid state reverb...but, like you, once
you have that genuine Fender reverb unit you never go back. Its so lush and
wet you can drown in it. But the DeVille certainly has a nice reverb all on
its own. Its just not as extreme as a reverb unit.
