What Fender amp is best to use?

Jerry (whipeoutboy63) - 26 Sep 2002 01:22:56

Hello Guys and gals,
O.K. I know this is been asked before...So don't shoot me for it.
I want to have my amp rewired and perhaps even the circuit board
changed.
I got an address of a really good amp builder who can alter the sound of
almost any amp by replacing parts and rewiring amps.
I got this Sovtek MiG 100 (I think most of you know about this beast)
and I like it, but it is too heavy for me. I talked with Victor about
replacing the tubes, but perhaps I want to go a bit further (all will
depend on the cost of course) I'm just looking at the possibilities
before taking any steps.
I like Heads and Speakers to be separate, so that's one reason I would
like to stick with what I got. But I definitely will need more headroom
and a cleaner less overdriven, less bass sound.
So what is a nice Fender amp, besides the Twin reverb, that produces a
somewhat lighter sound? I like the Bandmaster, but anything else I
should listen too?
I know you are thinking why doesn't he just buy a Fender, good point,
but these are bit above my head, so too expensive and I got this
material now.
I'm not looking to copy the sound but more a Sovtek meets Fender sound,
I know this sounds strange, but I'm not after the Pure surf sound, but a
sound that points in that direction.
I use a 12" 1960 Marshall speaker cabinet, how would this influence the
sound? I also got a vintage Marshall 10" cabinet (both got Celestion
speakers) Would changing the 12" cabinet by the 10" cabinet influence
the Sound?
Thanks,
Jerry S. from Belgium "The Ohmmen" On a Surfy sound quest.
