Fender Hot Rod amps

windanseabeachboy - 25 Sep 2002 22:24:48

It has a standard Accutronics reverb tank -- can't read schematics
well enough to tell if it is tube-driven. It has three AX7 pre-amps,
if that helps. Fender says the HR's are based on the old Bassman amp
circuits from the late '50s, so it's possible. Since I run my amp thru
a Reissue Reverb, I never even touch the reverb dial on the HRD.
Anyone who has heard these HR amps (Deluxe or DeVille) and thought
they were tweak should realize the speakers are crap. Replacing the
stock Eminence junk with Celestion Vintage or better, Weber VST (at
half the price), yields a richer, fatter sound and smoother breakup.
The Cali series speakers are ideal for surf...clean and very loud.
Can't say enough about 'em.
With a few mods, these amps are pretty good for the money. The DeVille
4X10s are best - the tens sound tighter then the 12's. But at 60w,
they're just too loud for my purposes.
