Re: [SurfGuitar101] Re: DD Q & A, shit that went down on Sat at Jim Pash benefit

I'm more in sync with your view on this, Brian. In fact, I don't really care if
Dick was dis'ing Slacktone or not, nor do I care whatever kinda Bozo stuff he
does these days, this whole surf music scene would be a very different animal
had DD not put a fire under it the way he did in the early '60's.

Aren't we jumping to conclusions here? Maybe Dick had to go outside to
talk to someone or something. Dick is kind of "different", but the guy
laid down the law back in the day and you can't take that away from
him. As a fan, I would love to hear *both* Slacktone and DD play
Misirlou on the same night. They do it differently enough.
Dick is kind of like a loopy but lovable grandpa...people like to rip
on him but we would all miss him if he retired. Besides, you gotta go
see him at least once...have you seen him play Jacob? I got to only 2
years ago, and he definitely had the tone and chops...and that *sound*
coming out of the Showmans was pure power. Never mind the trumpet
noodling and Smoke on the Water, etc. I was mesmerized while he did
his surf stuff (but sadly only in medley form). I've said this many
times, but I would love to see Dick with a rhythm guitar player and
playing full versions of his surf songs.
I have heard that Dusty didn't get along with DD, or maybe he just got
tired of the gig, but he says nothing but positive things about DD on
his website and on the various lists. It does seem kind of odd that
Slacktone would play that song before DD, but what are you going to do
when the fans are screaming for it? Did they at least dedicate it to him?
Anyway, no one (Jeff?) has posted what other "shit" went down at that
gig. How were the other bands? Was Willy Glover at this gig too?
