IMHO, one of the things that gives our recordings that "live" quality, is that
we actively resisted using most of the so-called "high-tech" improvements that
are used by many other bands. We recorded analog, miked everything live,
through Shure SM-57 mics, and our sound engineer didn't F-- with
"noise-reduction" or other magical modern sound-processing. That's why, on many
of the tracks, as the master volume decays, you can hear the 60-cycle hum of a
single-coil guitar through a vintage Fender tube amp!
