Ok, I just got back from our guitar player Steve's house where I was able to
do some quick A/B/C comparisons. He has a 63 Reissue Fender Reverb (with cap
mod and NOS tubes), 65 Reissue Deluxe Reverb amp, and I have the Danelectro
Spring King Studio Series Reverb pedal.
My quick results are that the Dano falls somewhere between the on-board
reverb of the Deluxe (not very good) to The Fender Tank (awesome). The
Fender is WAY more lush and has THAT sound for surf. The Dano, even though
it has the cool "Kick Pad", is a bit more generic and sterile. Almost like
the on board reverb. Don't get me wrong, the Dano can get the surf sound
good enough, but it's just not the real thing.
My recommendation, Get the Dano if you (a) don't have a built-in reverb, (b)
don't have the cash for a tube tank, (c) need to have something to kick to
get that crash sound. It's great for stage but record with the tube reverb.
Bottom line - nothing beats the real thing.

BTW,
There are 3 actual springs in the unit. I opened it up and will post
pictures shortly.
Also,
The "Reel Echo" delay is another story. In a word, WOW!
