Now hold on, Red. You suggest that my critique of the EJ strat is due to envy
and that it's ridiculous to complain about a signature model. Then you go on to
complain about the set up of the SRV strat. Is this to say that you are envious
of SRV? No. We are fans of SRV and EJ, well at least I am, and envy is not
entering into the critiques. For example, when I hear people say that the Les
Paul is too heavy a guitar and they don't like humbuckers, I take it on face
value and never thought of such criticisms as being based on envy. I mean come
on, the Les Paul is one heavy mofo.

I sense a huge case of the green monster... envy. It's the "Eric
Johnson" Strat: Not the "Shawn Martin" or "Marty Tippens" model.
Apparently, Eric Johnson warrants the attention and adoration of a
large, multinational corporation. Possibly because he's damned
incredible, and has tone, chops, taste, and humility far exceeding
those of anyone here.
Complaining about a given Artist Signature model is ridiculous and
petty. Fender makes these available so that you can get into the
artists' head and understand some of the reasons why they play the way
they do. Ever try an SRV Strat setup to SRV's specs? It fights you
and it's uncomfortable, and it only sounds good if you have the
strength and endurance to hang on tight. It begs to be played in a
particular way and it lends itself to a given array of licks, and once
that realization dawns on you, it finally occurs to you why SRV
sounded like SRV.
Personally, I wouldn't buy a signature model: I'm too busy tweeking my
Frankenstein Strats to my own personal specifications and making music
to waste time complaining about how someone else likes their guitar setup.
