Dave is right, if you want flat out awesomeness, it's
hard to beat the MIJ '51 and '54 (flower power)
reissues. Those things are sweet all the way up and
down and price in the grand scheme of things is middle
of the road (which is still expensive, but you get
what you pay for). The Dirnt bass is a little
different with an extremely meaty late 60's "B"
profile and a custom hop '59 split P-bass pickup
instead of the single coil the '51's and '54's come
with. It's my favorite bass and has all the tone that
my old AV '62 (a $1300 bass at retail) had. It had
flats on it when I got it and the sound was beautiful.
