I have a late '60s Guitar Mate that I've had, well, since the
late '60s...
I'm glad I've hung onto it. It's a cool sounding little amp, with
reasonably good clean sound at lower volume, and then a nice
Marshall-like overdrive when cranked up.
I used it for some home recording over the winter, mainly to give me
a dirtier sound to mix with my lead guitar-- I would split the
guitar signal (right after my Fender Reverb), with one line into
my '64 Bassman and the other into my Traynor Guitar Mate (which I
sometimes alternated with a JCM 900). The Traynor sounded good along
with the Bassman, and the overdrive was a little
smoother (less harsh) than the Marshall, and not as obvious or
pronounced.
I've also brought it to houseparties, for those times you don't want
to get arrested.
Apart from recording or house parties, though, I don't get much use
out of it, because of it's relatively low volume. It's only about 20
watts, and mine is pretty noisy, so I don't mic it in a
live setting. It's biggest drawback is lack of headroom, it breaks
up pretty fast, and it doesn't seem able to keep up with a loud
drummer.

I used to play through a Traynor Guitar Mate. It had a great clean
tone at mid volume. When cranked it was one mean sounding rig.
Traynor used to make outboard reverb tanks as well. Sure wish I
still had that old Guitar Mate. Had all the qualities of a Fender.
