Re: [SurfGuitar101] Wilson Bros. VM-10 (was ...Squiers)

Richard:
If you put the $120 into improved bridge/trem-block you will be $270 into the
VM-10 - Lately I haven't seen too many Mexi Strats even as low as $350.00, and
the Mexi-Strat's bridge/trem-block are still way inferior to my upgrade!
See, to me, this is how it works: If I can spend $400 - $500 and have a good
looking guitar that plays, stays in tune, and resonates and sounds like a
$1,200+ axe, I feel I've more than gotten my money's worth out of the deal.
In 5 years, I'll be able to re-sell my modified cheapie, for at least $250.00,
but the $1,200 mass-produced model will have depreciated to maybe $700 - $800.
Do the math!
And, I repeat, that $400 Mexi Strat ain't got the "Ventures" logo prominent on
the headstock!

I had honestly not thought of a Strat copy from
another company as an alternative but the VM-10
actually sounds like a great idea, especially given
the $149 tag. Thing is, after numerous hobbies that
involved the fun of dumping money into aftermarket
parts for pieces of gear (I was notorious for pissing
away hundreds of dollars on a hundred dollar gun when
I played paintball, and after all that it was STILL
just a hundred dollar gun) I've decided that aside
from a possible pickup swap I'm not really willing to
spend money to upgrade things like hardware. For that
money I'm into Mexi/MIJ territory. So Bruce, what do
you think of the VM-10 in its raw form? Right now I'm
eyeballing a couple of Squier Strats on eBay; an newer
Chinese Standard series and an older Korean Squier
that's probably from the 80's.
