Oh yeah! Hell, the 80s Jap Strats even blow the latest *AMERICAN*
Fender products out of the water quality-wise. The level of quality
in the Japanese Stratocasters of that era is simply amazing. I have
an '85 Fender Contemporary Stratocaster MIJ, and it has never not once
ever failed me, and it's been beaten to death. The tone and sustain
are magnificent.
It was the quality of the Japanese production models that shamed
Fender America back into better quality control. Dan Smith, Director
of Marketing, Fender Electric Guitars at the time :"Everybody came up
to inspect them and the guys almost cried, because the Japanese
product was so good - it was what we had been having a hell of a time
trying to do."
The Fender Japanese product is *so* good, they don't even sell them in
America anymore, you have to settle for an American made model.
