Re: dream on, SoCal

Ferenc Dobronyi (ferencnd) - 12 Mar 2005 12:37:39

I don't like posting show reports, 'cause as the tour
manager, it ends up sounding like hype. But I am
surprized only Matt mentioned the SF show, and he was
only there for the last bit. Also, considering how
many regular Cow and SG101 members were inattendance--
maybe they are to dumbstruck to say anything???
Briefly, let me just say that the Bottom of the Hill
show was an amazing event. This is one of SF's best
nightclubs, and was nearly sold out. I am guessing
that there were atleast 300 people in attendance. The
sound man, Donny, truly understood surf sound, and he
even requested during sound check that Jeremy play a
"standard surf beat" so he could get reverbs just
right. KFJC Uncle Al was spining surf tunes between
the sets. And the crowd was packed right up to the
front of the stage. Pollo played first, Slacktone
followed, and if I may say, the "killed". Surf
Coasters shut down the place. They played 4 songs they
hadn't yet performed on the tour. Another huge sale at
the merch table (I have never seen a band sell so many
CDs). The biggest thrill for me was seeing all the
obviously non-surf fans come to check out our scene,
and really dig it!
Last night in Sacto was another good time. Shigeo sat
in with Pollo for Tsunami Struck- (I sat out, and it
was great to hear PDM live!) The Surf Coasters really
electrified the crowd, and were called back for two
encores.
In yesterday's San Jose Mercury, there was a nice long
article about the Surf Coasters and the show for The
Blank Club on sunday. I will try and post the text of
it. If anybody has a hardcopy of the article, please
save it for me.
thanks,
ferenc
PS to Matt and all-- yes it was great to see Rick
Escobar out and about. and here is a little gossip...
I am planning the next "Battle of the Bands" for June
and Rick will headline, playing a set of Woodies
tunes!
