I never heard of that either. I have always been told
that the more headroom you had the "healthier" the
speaker would sound and you'd run less risk of
damaging it when you get spikes from playing. It's
for this reason that I quit running everything on my
B100R 1x15 combo so high (bass all the way up, treble
all the way up) because while I liked the aggressive,
cutting sound for live shows, it sounded like crap
when recording. The guy recording our demo for us
told me to run everything flat and do minor tweaks
from there. On my Mesa Boogie head (200 watts) I
don't engage the active EQ at all for fear of busting
something in my cab (also 200 watts).
