Well the funny thing is that I am not currently in a surf band.
My application is for more of a noise punk/post punk/indie rock
purpose. I have an ampeg ss-35 currently and the simple truth of it
is that it isnt loud enough. Also it doenst have much treble
headroom. It's high gain and very muddy. I am attracted by the fender
mostly because of the brightness, and lots of headroom from
relatively low wattage. My keyboard player has a Little frontman 15
watt and I actually got to like the tone of that better than my own
amp despite the size difference. The only downside that I can see is
that to distort it properly I am going to need a pedal. That doesnt
seem like to much of a downside to me really. As for the gigs, mostly
basements, and small venues, and I would imagine anything bigger it
could just get miked through a PA. I am already half way convinced
that this is the way to go. I am not really fond of marshalls or any
other typical hard rock amp. The price seems fair. Any thing I should
be aware of before i jump into it? I'm very new to the tube thing.
Guitars I play - Danelectro Hodad, Gretsch G3161, Yamaha eg303, and
sometimes a squire strat (it belongs to said keyboard player) If that
makes any differance to you guys.
